The instrumental company Museo della Città di Bologna oversees and manages the Genus Bononiae project. Musei nella Città (Museums in the City), initiated by the Foundation, is an itinerary of culture, art and museums that showcases the historic buildings which have been restored and subsequently reopened to the public, all located in the heart of Bologna:

To better describe and understand the genus, or the lineage of the Bologna people of yesterday and today, is Genus Bononiae. Musei nella Città takes you through an urban itinerary that tells of history, life, arts and dreams; it uses the streets of Bologna as corridors, palaces and churches as the sites of a unique large museum, integrating into the already existing establishment, providing a rich connection with the other cultural, economic and social organisations that liven up the local community.
